How many years is st Mary’s Church in Malaysia ? And what church is that?
St. Mary’s church is one of the oldest churches in Malaysia about 126 years old,
Which has survived over a century of flood and war.
It is the main Anglican church in West Malaysia and a historical KL landmark.
How was the original church like and where was it located ?
The original st Mary’s church was made of simple wooden building located on top of a hill now known as Bukit Aman, where the headquarters of the Royal Malaysian police is now located.
Who consecrated the church and when ?
It was consecrated by the
Reverend George Frederick hose, the bishop on
13 February 1887
Who did the church serve during that period ?
It was served as the center for worship and spiritual life for the small group of Anglicans around Kuala Lumpur at that period .
When did the church decided to relocate to a new site, where and why ?
In year 1893, they decided to relocate to a new site beside the Padang or Dataran Merdeka because of growing congregation.
What happened during that time when they wanted to build the church ? What is the design of the new church building and by who ?
During that time when they wanted to build the church , they held a contest for the best design for the church.
Now you see, the design of the new church building is based on early english gothic architecture by
AC Norman.

Who installed the organ and when?
Inside the church , there is a second-hand pipe organ installed in the year 1800s by Henry Willis, the famous English organ maker which has been used during services since 1895.
What happened to the organ during the period of 1900s?
In the year 1900s, the organ was badly damaged by floods and world war 2, and had to be repaired and rebuilt several times.
You will still the see the beautifully restored old pipe organ and is still being used in the church today.
When is the church service ?
The English service for this church is every Sunday 7am, 9am, 11am.
