John’s group were troublemakers and tried to make a 2nd fort in his home.
This is
important because it made trouble for the Council of 40 and showed Canada that not everyone agreed.
Thomas Scott
Who were they?
What did they do?
Why was that important
Thomas Scott was an Orangeman, he wanted McDougall to be in charge and for Canada to takeover.
Thomas Scott commit treason and was executed for it.
Thomas Scott was anti-catholic, and against certain religions. His execution led to Ontario and Wolseley’s men being angry at Metis.
Louis Riel
Who were they?
What did they do?
Why was that important?
Louis Riel was a founder of the province of Manitoba.
He was a Canadian politician and a political leader for Metis.
He led two resistance movements against the Government of Canada and its first prime minister John A. MacDonald. Those acts unfortunately led to the fate of Louis Riel. (hanging)
Why did the Metis takeover Fort Garry?
The Metis took over Fort Garry because it was the base of power and they got it right before Schultz and his gang did, who ever occupied it was more likely to be in control.
