What is Quid Pro Quo?
Submission to or rejection of unwelcomed sexual advances or requests for sexual favors by an individual that are used as the basis for employment decisions regarding that individual.
What is Bases for Discrimination? The protected groups:
Race, Color, National Origin/Ancestry, Religion, Sex, Marital Status,Sexual Orientation, Age, Medical Condition, Disability, HIV/AIDS, Vietnam era Veteran Status, Retaliation.
What is EEO - Equal Employment Opportunity?
Fair treatment in employment, promotion, training, and other personnel actions without regard to any of the following protected bases: race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, creed, sex, gender identity, gender expression, marital status, sexual orientation, age (40+), medical condition and disability (physical or mental) including HIV/AIDS, and retaliation for having filed or participated in a discrimination complaint or opposed discrimination.
What is Discrimination?
Unfair or unequal treatment of an individual (or group) based on certain characteristics (protected groups)
What is Disparate Treatment?
Occurs when individuals are treated less favorably than others who are similarly situated because of their membership in a protected category.
What is Retaliation?
Adverse employment action against an individual for engaging in protected activity.
What is Harassment?
Unwelcomed conduct (verbal or physical) based on a person’s membership in a protected category.
Who is protected against harassment and discrimination?
Employees, vendors/contractors, applicants, customers/clients, and the public who utlize City services and facilities.
What is Hostile Work Environment?
Unwelcomed comments or conduct motivated by a protected basis that unreasonably interferes with an employee’s work performance or creates an intimidating, threatening or abusive work environment.
What is Failure to Accomodate?
Refusing to provide a reasonable accomodation to the religious beliefs or practices or the known disability of an applicant or employee, unless doing so would cause an undue hardship on the employer.
What are the 6 steps to Delegation?
- Communicate the task (what done, when done, end results u want)
- Furnish context for the task (why it needs to be done, importance & possible complications)
- Determine the standards (realistic & attainable-to measure the success of task completion)
- Grant authority
- Provide support & necessary resources.
- Get commitment - assure employee accepts assignment
