Splendid Isolation Flashcards
What was Splendid Isolation?
Britain’s foreign policy about deliberately staying away from Europe and it’s alliances and keeping to itself and it’s colonies as no single power gained controlled. (Doesn’t need to get involved in Europe)
How did Britain stay in Splendid Isolation?
Splendid Isolation depended on the strength of the British Navy for protection and to be able to communicate with it’s Empire. Anglo-Japanese Alliance in 1902 caused no need for an alliance in Europe
When and why was Splendid Isolation questioned?
Between 1898 and 1902:

1899-1902-Britain involved in the Boer War, whom many European countries sympathised with and the Kaiser made his views publically
Anglo-Japanese Alliance caused no European action in the Boer Wars
-Britain’s problems with Russia’s and France’s colonies could cause the Franco-Russian Alliance to be directed against Britain
