Specific Latent Heat Flashcards
What is specific latent heat?
SLH is the energy required to change the state of 1kg of a substance
What is latent heat?
If a change of state happens, the heat energy needed for a substance to change state is called latent heat. This heat energy goes into breaking the bonds between particles while a substance is changing state.
What are the two types of latent heat?
Specific latent heat of fusion & specific latent heat of vaporisation
What is specific latent heat of fusion?
Energy needed to change state from solid to liquid without any temperature change
What is specific latent heat of vaporisation?
Energy needed to change state from liquid to gas without any temperature change
Energy transferred formula?
Energy transferred = mass x specific latent heat of fusion/vaporisation
Units of specific latent heat
J/kg
