Space Flashcards
What is gravity
A force between all objects and the bigger the mass the bigger the force of gravity
What is mass
Amount of material in an object measured in kg and never changes
What is weight
Force of gravity on an object measured in newtons changes depending on gravity. weight is equal to mass times gravitational field strength
What is a satellite
Objects the orbit larger objects
Two types of satellites
Natural and man-made
Describe terrestrial planets
Solid surface, no rings, small, few moons
Give examples of terrestrial planets
Mercury Venus Earth Mars
Describe jovian planets
Gas giants, large , many moons, rings
Give examples of jovian planets
Jupiter Saturn Neptune uranus
How do we get day and nights
Due to earth’s axis And rotation
How do we seasons
Different parts of Earth get Suns light/heat
What is a solar eclipse
Moon comes in between Earth and Sun and casts a shadow on Earth
Umbra meaning
Earth’s surface completely blocked of light
Penumbra meaning
Partial eclipse
What is a lunar eclipse
Earth lies in between sun amd moon
