what does a GP do?
prescribe medication, refer to hospital and further support, talk through symptoms, offer advice and give encouragement
what does a district nurse do?
give medication (DOES NOT PRESCRIBE), change dressings, give injections, give encouragement, talk to patient, refer patient to other professional support if needed
what does a social worker do?
offer support to a later adult if unable to care for themselves in own home
check that children are well cared for and safe
what does a Counsellor do?
talk through problems, offer advice, can refer to other support
what does a Dietician do?
talk through problems, help set up a diet plan, monitor new diet, plan exercise alongside
what does a Physiotherapist do?
help patient move limbs after an operation, offer support and encouragement, give exercise to do at home to improve mobility
what do Pharmacists do?
give advice fro minor illnesses, offer support and encouragement, also encourage patient to refer themselves to further professional support
what does a home care assistant do?
to help a patient get in and out of bed, help wash and bathe, help with food and cooking, help with daily jobs, help with cleaning
what can a partner do?
talk to person, refer to professional support and encourage good things such as exercise
what can family (children) do?
take pressure off parent, help around the house
what can family (adults) do?
take person out, cook and clean, help around the house, refer to professional help
