Somatic Symptom Disorder (Somatization Disorder)
SSD vs. IAD are very similar except for a single distinction. in SSD the client actually has a somatic issue (i,e pain or some other issue) that can be documented by a medical professional. On top of that condition, they have severe health-related anxiety. A persistent concern about the medical seriousness of the condition. put a lot of effort into managing symptoms and effects their functioning. Both need to be present for at least 6 months. the test, look for whether the individual had an actual documented health condition.
Illness Anxiety Disorder (hypochondriasis)
There are rarely somatic symptoms or if they do they are mild. However, they have an intense fear that they have some type of serious disease despite reassurance otherwise. Both need to be present for at least 6 months.
Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder (Conversion Disorder)
A very distinct diagnosis in which a clients psychological issue converts into a somatic issue. i,e: “Blind rage” so angry that they lose their sight, or a person could be very upset due to a trauma that they actually lose the functioning of a limb (rare). (They are In some type of paralysis due to the traumatic nature of the issue.
