sodium-glucose co-transporter Flashcards
re-absorption of glucose
takes placce in the proximal convoluted tubule mediated by the sodium- glucose co-transporters (SGLT-1 AND SGLT-2) which is normally 100% efficient
- glucose only appears in the urine in plasma concentration exceeds the transport maximum which is around 11mmol/litre
SGLT-1 is mainly expressed in both
the intestine and the PCT but SGLT-2 is exclusive to the proximal convoluted tubule,
SGLT-2 IS MAINLY PRESENT IN WHAT PART OF PCT
FIRST PART OF THE PROXIMAL CONVOLUTED TUBULE
SGLT-1 IS MAINLY PRESENT IN WHAT PART OF THE PCT
THE LATER APRT OF THE PROXIMAL CONVOLUTED TUBULE
SGLT-2 INHIBITORS
E.G EMPAGIFLOXIN AND DAPAGLIFLOZIN ARE COMPETITIVE INHIBITORS OF SGLT-2 CUASING A DIRECT GLYCSURIA
