Soc 15 Flashcards
What is the Cardio-respiratory system
The interaction of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to muscle during exercise.
What is Vasodilation
When veins swell up or dilate windening of the internal diameter (lumen) of the blood vessel to allow increased blood flow.
What is Vasoconstriction
When veins shrink down narrowing if the internal diameter (luman) of the blood vessel to decrease blood flow.
What is vascular shunting
Process that increases blood flow to active areas during exercise by diverting blood away from inactive areas achieved by vasodilation and vasoconstriction.
What is cardiovascular
To do with the heart, blood and blood vessels together.
What is an artery
Takes blood away from the heart.
What are thr 4 main functions if an artery
Arteries have thick walls and are more elastic than can widen to allow more blood through so when you exercise it can reach the working muscles.
2.the channel the blood flows through ,called the lumen can widen to allow blood through so when you exercise it can reach the working muscles.
3.The pulmonary artery is different from other arteries as it carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs.
What is a vein
Veins carry blood into the heart.
What are the 4 main characteristics for veins
1.they carry blood into the heart.
2.veins have much thinner walls, are less elastic and carry blood at a lower pressure.
3.veins contain manh valves which helps deoxygenated blood flow to the heart.
4.The pulmonary arteries is different to the other veins as it carries oxygenated blood from the lungs back to the heart.
