skeletal muscle attachment Flashcards
how many points of attachment are there usually to a bone, and name these attachments
2 points of attachment, the origin and insertion
what is meant by the origin of a skeletal muscle
usually, the most proximal attachment to the bone (less movement)
what is meant by the insertion of a skeletal muscle
usually, the most distal attachment to the bone (more movement)
describe the contraction of a skeletal muscle
this is the origin and insertion of the muscle coming closer together, the muscle fibres shorten (muscle shortens) along the long axis
describe a tendons functions and properties
tendons are the part that attach the muscle to the bone, they are found at either end of the muscle and are non-contractile
what is an aponeurosis and where would it be found
it is a flattened tendon, commonly associated with flat muscles and they attach to soft tissue instead of bone
