What is a needs assessment?
process, evaluating the health and nutritional status of a community
What is Asset Mapping
community assessment that documents existing assets and resources
Situational Assessment
also considers strengths, assets and capacities, not just problems or needs
Why conduct a situational assessment?
learn more about population of interest, anticipate trends and issues that may affect the implementation of your program, identify community wants, needs issues, priorites
Variables that impact process
time, staff, scope (large scale can be too costly and time consuming)
Situational Assessment Process

What is making the situation better or worse?
PEEST, SWOT
PEEST: Environmental
housing or food issues, green spaces, access to gardens, food evniornment
PEEST: social
community safe, do people have places to gather, community centre or hub with accessible program
Parameters of Assessment?
community, target population, geographical boundary. Setting goals and objectives
Target population: health/ nutritional status?
individual, living, working, social, community, (env, socioeconomic), background (natioanl, cultural)
