seward lecture Flashcards
What is a receptor??
a protein that binds to a chemical mediator
what is a chemical mediator
small molecule peptide produced by one cell which send a signal to another cell or itslef
what does DR stand for/?
drug and receptor complex
what is diference between enodogenous and exogenous agonist?
endogenous- natural lingand for receptor
exogenous- created from another source
what does lignocaine do?
blocks voltage gated sodium channels (stop pain - local anesthetic)
give 4 classes of receptors
ligand gates ion channels (ionotrophic)
G-protein coupled receptors (metabotrophic)
kinase linked receptors
nuclear receptors
how many TMDs does g-protein coupled receptors have?
7
what does fluoxetine do?
inhibits transporter for serotonin (cannot be taken into cells) this treats depression at extracellular serotonin levels rise
what does digoxin do?
causes heart to collapse
what is structure of glutamate receptors?
3 TMDs and a P loop (pore)
wehn do ligand gated ion channels open?
when bound by agonist
what are g-protein receptors subunits?
alpha, beta, gamma
