Q

Security light sensors

A

The sensors can beam light form one sensor to another. If a beam of light is broken by a person, the next sensor will recognise it and send the information to computer.

Q

Thermostat

A

A device that keeps temperature at constant level. It has two pieces of metal that will close together or open up depending on the current temperature.

6
Q

Temperature sensors

A

A device that measures heat generated by an object or system. By measuring the change in heat, the sensors can detect changes in temperature.

Q

Contact temperature sensors

A

Need to have actual physical contact with an object to measure its temperature.

9
Q

Infrared sensor

A

It detects infrared radiation that emits from a person or object. Infrared waves are emitted by many things but people cannot see it.

Q

Motion sensors

A

By sending microwaves that bounce off objects, the sensor would detect a change in the usual pattern if a moving object were to interrupt them.

Q

Accelerometer

A

A device that detects rotation and tilt. Used in phones to rotate screen depending on the angle at which the user is holding the device.

Q

Magnetic field sensors

A

Measure the strength and direction of a magnetic field and respond to its changes. Used in phones to provide application that act as compass.

Q

Gas sensors

A

A presence of gas in a certain area trigger a response if the amount gets too high or too low.

Q

Pressure sensors

A

Measures the pressure of a liquid or a gas. In water pipes, the conduction of electricity at certain area can monitor the pressure. If the level of electricity conducted increases, it means that pressure is higher.

Q

Moisture sensors

A

Measures the amount of moisture in a certain material. Used to measure the moisture of soil. Getting the correct level of moisture into soil is vital for farming crops.

16
Q

Humidity/hygrometer sensors

A

Measure the amount of water vapour present in the air and the current temperature of the air. Used in museums, since too high humidity can damage some artefacts.

17
Q

pH sensors

A

Measures how acidic or alkaline a material is. Used in aquariums, because it is important to set pH at some level for different types of fish.
