SEIR x2 Flashcards
When can you fly SPIFR?
AFM permits SP ops
A/C equipped with coms that can be used without releasing flight controls
What fuel is required to be carried?
Sufficient fuel to fly from A-B and from B to an alternate if one is required and thence;
To fly for a further 45 minutes
OR
To fly for a further 30 minutes for turbine powered a/c
(at holding speed at 1500ft AAL)
When must an alternate be nominated by the PIC?
Always, unless:
The AD of intended landing has a standard instrument approach procedure published in the AIP
AND
At the time of submitting the FP, forecasts indicate that at the ETA +/- 1 hour the ceiling will be 1000ft above minima published and the visibility 5km or 2km greater than minima published, whichever is more restrictive
What is required for an AD to be listed as an alternate? (2)
At the time of submitting the FP the weather forecasts much indicate that at the ETA of the alternate the ceiling and vis is at or above the following met minima:
If the instrument apch procedure with an alternate minima has been published in the AIP, the specified alternate minima for that instrument apch procedure
OR
Precision apch, ceiling 600ft or 200ft above MDA/DA, visibility 3000m or 1000m above published minima, whichever is more restrictive
OR
Non precision apch, ceiling 800ft or 200ft above MDA/DA, visibility 4000m or 1500m above published minima, whichever is more restrictive
OR
If there is no instrument apch procedure published in the AIP, VFR met minima must be met for descent below MFA
Must have secondary electrical power supply for ground based navaids required for the apch and for lights for night ops
When can you deviate from a FP?
When you have requested and been cleared by ATC
In an emergency which necessitates deviation with notification to ATC as soon as practicable
When must ATC be notified of an inadvertent change to FP? What responsibilities does the pilot have?
Any:
- Deviation from track
- Variation of 5% or more of TAS or 0.02 or more Mach (given in FP)
- a revised ETA when the reported ETA to the next reporting point is in error of 2 minutes or more
Pilot must regain track as soon as possible
What must the PIC do in regard to DGs carried?
Must notify ATC as soon as practicable of the DGs if an in flight emergency occurs
What MDA/DA/DH must be used for an instrument apch?
The higher of:
The MDA/DA/DH prescribed for the approach
The MDA/DA/DH prescribed for the pilot
The MDA/DA/DH for which the a/c is equipped
When may a pilot descend below MDA? (3)
A pilot may not operate an a/c below MDA or continue an approach past the DA/DH unless:
The a/c is continuously in a position from which a descent to land on the intended runway can be made at a normal ROD using normal manoeuvres which allows touchdown within the TDZ of the runway of intended landing
AND
The visibility is not less than the visibility published in the AIP for the instrument apch used
AND
Except CAT II or III precision apch, at least one acceptable visual references for the intended runway is distinctly visible and identifiable by the pilot
Can you land when the vis is less than the minima published in the AIP for the instrument apch used?
No
When must a MAPR be executed?
Any of the requirements to operate below MDA are not met:
- When operating below MDA
- Upon arrival to the MAPt, including DA/DH and thereafter that point until touchdown
OR
an identifiable part of the aerodrome is not distinctly visible to the pilot during a circling manoeuvre at or above MDA, unless resulting from normal manoeuvring of the a/c during apch
What is the IFR t/o minima?
Minima published in the AIP
If no minima published, 300ft ceiling, 1500m visibility
What is reduced t/o minima? When can it be used?
Ceiling 0ft, vis 800m.
- The reduced t/o minima for the runway to be used is published in the AIP
- The runway has CL markings or lights
- The pilot visually confirms the visibility using the CL prior to t/o
- Any obstacles in the t/o path are taking into account
- ME propellor a/c equipped with operable auto feather or coarse equipment
What are the rules regarding operation in icing conditions?
PIC operating an a/c under IFR shall not:
Perform a t/o in an a/c which has:
Snow, ice, or frost adhering to the wings, stabilisers, control surfaces, propellors, windscreen, power plant, airspeed, altimeter, rate of climb, or attitude instrument system.
Fly an a/c into known or forecast icing conditions unless equipped with ice protection equipment for flight in the type of known icing conditions.
What are the minimum heights IFR?
Minimum altitudes published in the AIP
If no minimum altitude published, over mountainous terrain a height not below 2000ft above the highest obstacle within a 5Nm radius, or at a height not below 1000ft above the highest obstacle within a 5Nm radius
