The discovery of oil in the 1930s greatly changed traditional ways of life in the Arabian Peninsula by:
making them rich, and used that money to pay for modernization (built hospitals, schools, roads, airports, health services) and built desalination plants to create water
Many changes have occurred in Saudi Arabia since the mid-1960s
Jioned OPEC, invested to develop industires like steel and petrochemical (because oil is not infinite) and kept many Islamic traditions of life
Why are Oman and Yemen differnet from other countries on the Arabian Penisula?
Yemen is the poorest in Arabian Peninsula, only recelty started to develop, and farming and herding are main jobs
