What is the difference between Information Technology and Information Systems
Information Technology - Is the Technology used to create, maintain, and make information available
Information Systems - Includes all the components of a system including; the hardware, the software, the network elements and the people using these things
List all of the IT functions in an Organization and give a brief statement about what they are/do.
1) User Support - providing support to users who need it to ensure proper workflow without the disruption of tech
2) Data Management - Focuses on the efficient storage and security of data so that it can be utilized properly
3) Network - Support the communication and exchange of data between systems
4) System Integration - When new systems are introduced IT professionals are tasked with ensuring they are introduced effectively and merge well with organization goals.
What are the core components of software and briefly explain them.
1) Software Development - Identify and implement systems that help the organization perform tasks more efficiently and provide services to clients
2) Security - Aim to put secure systems in to ensure data does not get tampered with or stolen or disrupt businesses practices
3) Business Analysis - Investigate, assess, and plan for new or replacement systems provided by vendors or developed internally
What is Intranet
Resources available only to those who work within an organization and no outside sources or people.
What is Internet
Internet is used by the public and is open to anyone (blogs, e-commerce, etc)
What is Extranet
Extranet provides resources so 3rd party or partnered organizations can share data between each other to do business (sharing stocking data to know when a company needs something)
What are the components of Business of IT?
1) Business Intelligence - Large amounts of data that is collected and analyzed and utilized to enhance business decisions
2) Project Management - Ensuring that projects are timely, resource efficient and integrated properly.
3) Outsourcing Services - IT consultants will analyze an organization and determine what is needed to assist the company and give that company access to those departments.
What do Computer Engineers do?
Design hardware systems and the software that is run on them
What is the scope of Computer Science
They design and implement software w/ an emphasis on providing solutions to problems that are computing related. They also find new ways to use computers
What do Software Engineers do?
Focus on the development and maintenance of efficient software systems
What is the job role of Information Systems?
Integrate IT solutions to assist in meeting organizational goals
What is the role of Information Technology?
Provide tech solutions to end users to ensure an efficient work flow

1) Vacuum tubes and magnetic drums (Simple Machine Language)
2 Transistors (Transition to Assembly Language. Introduction of COBOL and FORTRAN)
3) Integrated Circuits (Higher-level programming language, wide sweep of business use of computers. intro of personal use)
4) Microprocessors - thousands of integrated circuits on silicon chips (wide usage of personal computers)
5) AI Software - Introduction of nanotechnology and quantum computing
