Section 2 Flashcards
Yet again, what is the difference between an element and a compound?
A element is one single element.
A compound is more than one element.
The protons and neutrons are found in what part of the atom?
The nucleus!! wow
Where are the electrons in an atom?
They just chill out on the electron rings outside of the atom.
Which two of the three subatomic particles have mass?
Protons and neutrons.
The electrons are sKiNiY
What are the charges of all of the subatomic particles?
Protons are positive:)
Neutrons are neutral:|
Electrons are negative:(
Protons + Neutrons = __________
Atomic massssss
Valence electrons are on what shell?
The outermost shell or scientifically the valence shell “wow”
Elements are named based of the number of _________ they have.
PROTONS
What SpeCiAl name has a proton been given?
Atomic number
What happens when the valence shell is full on the periodic table???
They start a new row or new shell.
An element can’t loose _______ but it can loose _______ and _______.
(think subatomic particles:)
protons
electrons and neutrons
Alkali metals and halogens are either very stable or very reactive, which one is right?
very reactive, they really aren’t happy
Noble gases are very stable (ha i wish i was a noble gas), why are they so stable?
They have a full valence shell or they are inert (inert is a weird sciency word)
Why are alkali metals and halogens so reactive?
Alkali metals have 1 electron on their valence shell.
Halogens are 1 electron away from a full valence shell.
They are irrelevant but Alkaline Earth Metals are sorta reactive, why?
They only have 2 electrons on their valence shell.
