Section 11: Forms of Motion Displacement Flashcards
The branch of mechanics that deals with the description of motion.
Kinematics
Descriptions that are concerned with how the body uses space.
Spatial Descriptions
Descriptions that are concerned with how the body uses time.
Temporal Descriptions
Form of motion in which all parts of the body move exactly the same distance, in the same direction, in the same amount of time.
Translation
Motion in a line.
Linear Motion
Linear motion in a straight line.
Rectilinear Motion
Linear motion in a curved line.
Curvilinear Motion
Form of motion in which all parts of the body move exactly the same angle, in the same direction, and in the same amount of time.
Rotation
A body/object that is in angular motion will rotate about this.
Axis of Rotation
A body is in this type of motion if it has both translation and rotation.
General Motion
An aspect of a situation that is subject to change.
Variable
A change in position along a line.
Linear Displacement
Assessed along the path of motion.
Distance
A change in position around an axis of rotation.
Angular Displacement
A change in position along a line during a given time.
Linear Velocity
