How did the British gain French territory in North America?
The British gained French territory in North America by pushing into the Ohio River valley land that was claimed by the French. This caused the French to start building forts on the land to back their claim. The French refused to give up the Ohio River valley. The. British felt a war was on the rise between the French and Virginia Colony, so they agreed to fight against the French. The British began sending troops to take over French forts. The French lost Quebec to the British and after that, they were unable to defend the rest of their North American territory. In 1763, the French and British signed the Treaty of Paris and France lost almost all of its North American possessions.
