Science Rocks and Minerals Flashcards
Mineral
There are tons of minerals in a rock.
Crystal
I could see the bands in the crystal structure.
Inorganic
The rocks were inorganic because I knew that they were made from a volcano.
Streak
The streak of gold was amazing.
Luster
The luster of gold was very shiny.
Mohs Hardness Scale
The Mohs Hardness Scale helps me identify the hardness of a rock.
Cleavage
When I split the rock it’s cleavage was so flat.
Fracture
The gold’s fracture was very ridged.
Geode
After some research, I found out that the rock was a geode.
Crystallization
Over the years, I watched the rock crystallize.
Solution
I use an eye solution to wash my contact lenses.
Vein
The miner struck a vein of gold deep inside the earth.
Rock Forming Minerals
Quartz is a rock forming mineral.
Granite
My house that granite countertops.
Basalt
When the volcano erupted it made basalt.
Grains
Sugar contains many grains.
Texture
The texture of the granite was rough.
Igneous Rock
There was no sign of igneous rock after the eruption.
Sedimentary Rock
The sedimentary rock by the river contained many fossils.
Metamorphic Rock
Granite is one of the metamorphic rocks.
Extrusive Rock
The extrusive rock that erupted from the volcano crystallized in the chilly evening.
Intrusive Rock
The intrusive rock seeped into the volcano’s cracks.
Sediment
There’s a lot of sediments in the river.
Weathering
The weathering created many holes on the crust of the Earth.
Erosion
The water caused erosion on the surface of the mountain.
Deposition
The deposition moved the sediments to the mountains.
Compaction
The compaction of the cars was interesting to watch
Cementation
Steel is formed your the process of cementation.
Clastic Rocks
The old church is made up of clastic rock.
Organic Rock
Plant remains smashed underground is organic rock.
Chemical Rock
Limestone is a type of chemical rock.
Foliated
The metamorphic rock was foliated becuase I could see the bands.
The Rock Cycle
The Rock Cycle is a process on how rock flow everyday.
