7
Q

Does Mass or Weight change, and do scientists use weight as a measurement?

A

weight changes on the gravitational pull of an object, therefore scientists do not use it, mass does not change

Q

What is density?

A

how much space an object or substance takes up (its volume) in relation to the amount of matter in that object or substance (its mass). Another way to put it is that density is the amount of mass per unit of volume.

13
Q

Why is water the ‘exception’ for density?

A

Because, water freezes at 0 C, and becomes solid. The more dense object sinks, and the less floats. For example, in a pond full of h2o, only the top layer freezes, but stays there since water is more dense.

14
Q

What would happen if water was less dense than ice?

A

the ice would keep sinking, and new water would go to the top, and freeze, and so on.. killing all the organisms that live in that pond.

16
Q

Physical properties or not?

A

mass and density are both physical properties. Every substance has its own density.

17
Q

what is the exception for what can change density

A

temperature can change the density of an object. if you increase the temperature, density decreases, and if you decrease the temperature, the density increases.
