Science Biology Flashcards
What’s an ecosystem?
All the interacting parts of biological community, including the organisms, the environment, the flow of energy and the cycling of matter
Terrestrial ecosystem
An environment on land where plants and animals interact
Aquatic ecosystem
Any watery environment from Ponds to ocean in which plants and animals and track
Sustainable ecosystem
An ecosystem that is capable of withstanding pressure while giving support to a variety of organisms
Biodiversity
It’s number of different types of organism in an area. The greater the number of organisms in the area, the greater the biodiversity of that area.. high biodiversity levels are associated with healthy sustainable
What a biotic factor
Living parts of the ecosystem, such as plants, animals, and microorganisms
What’s an abiotic factor?
Nonliving parts of the ecosystem such as water, oxygen light levels of nutrition
What’s the five major causes of decreased of biodiversity
Habitat change, overexploitation, pollution, invasive species, and climate change
What’s photosynthesis?
Photosynthesis requires light plants and algae need light to undergo this process
What are producers
They create energy from the light they do not need to consume other organisms to get energy also called auto tropes, which means self feeders
Consumers
Consumers are organism, which need to eat other organisms to get their energy They cannot perform photosynthesis also called heterotrophs which mean other feeders
What’s a omnivore?
Animal which eats both plants and animals
What’s a herbivore?
An animal which eats plants or other producers
What’s a carnivore?
An animal that each other animals
What’s a scavenger?
An animal, which feeds on the remains of another organism
What’s a decomposer?
An organism which feeds on a breakdown, dead planter animal matter
What’s an atmosphere?
The layers of gases, mainly nitrogen and oxygen surrounding the earth. It acts like an insulator regulating earth surface temperature blocks in coming solar radiation.
What’s lithosphere?
An outer layer of solid rock that consists of rocks, minerals, and soil
What’s an hydrosphere?
It’s water on and below earth surface water is in solid liquid and gas form 97% is found in the oceans
What’s biosphere?
It’s the religions within the three other spheres were life exist, very thin compared to earth size
What’s an organism
A single living being Plant or animal
What is population?
A group of the same organisms living in the same area
What’s a community?
A number of different populations of organisms in the area
Ecosystem the community
Of organisms and their interactions of nonliving substance in the area
