define population (in psychology)
a large group of people you are interested in studying - if its a specific group its a target population
what’s a sample?
an even smaller group taken from the target population
what are the 5 types of sampling?
volunteer sampling
stratified sampling
random sampling
opportunity sampling
systematic sampling
what is volunteer sampling?
when people volunteer to be part of the study
what is stratified sampling?
when the population is divided into specific groups and then randomly sampled from those groups
what is random sampling?
everyone in the entire target population has an equal chance of being selected
what is opportunity sampling?
where a researcher selects participants based on their availability
what is systematic sampling?
where every nth individual is selected from a list or sequence
