SALIVA & URINE Flashcards

NORMAL HUMAN SALIVA
OH2000 - pH
NORMAL HUMAN SALIVA – pH Treated
pH Treatment: Acidic and basic (alkaline) are two extremes that describe chemicals, just like hot and cold are two extremes that describe temperature. Mixing acids and bases (alkaline) can cancel out their extreme effects, much like mixing hot and cold water can even out the water temperature.

NORMAL HUMAN URINE, MALE:
Tested for acceptable ranges of analytes
MSG5100
MASS SPECT GOLD HUMAN URINE, CATECHOLAMINE FREE
Catecholamine: A type of neurohormone (a chemical that is made by nerve cells and used to send signals to other cells). Catecholamines are important in stress responses. High levels cause high blood pressure which can lead to headaches, sweating, pounding of the heart, pain in the chest, and anxiety. Examples of catecholamines include dopamine, epinephrine (adrenaline), and norepinephrine (noradrenaline).
Makes sure these are at low levels:
Norepinephrine <2 μg/L
Epinephrine <1 μg/L
Dopamine <2 μg/L
Normetanephrine <4 μg/L
Metanephrine <4 μg/L
