Commuter Belt?
rural areas that are within it are within a few hours of a large urban area allowing commuting for work, shopping, school on a daily basis
Ageing Population?
A shift in the distribution of a country’s population towards older ages so there is a decline in the proportion of the population composed of children, and a rise in the proportion of the population that is elderly
Counter Urbanisation?
When people move from urban ares to rural areas
Dormant Villages?
Villagers largely in the accessible rural areas where urban dwellers buy second homes to live in at weekends so during the week they are empty
Fertility rate?
The average number of children born to women in a given population
Natural Increase?
The increase in population that arises as a result of an excess of births over deaths( so the growth in the population caused by babies being born)
Second home owners?
People who own two homes, usually one in urban areas that they live in during the week and a second in rural areas they they live in at the weekend
Accessible countryside?
Rural areas that are within day trips reach of a large urban area
Commute?
to travel some distance between one’s home and place of work on a regular basis
Conurbation?
A region comprising a number of cities, large towns, and other urban ares that, through population growth and physical expansion, have merged to form one. continuous urban or industrially developed area
Densely populated?
Places with a high population density/many people per km3
Remote countryside?
Rural areas that it takes best part of a day to reach a large urban area

Places in the countryside
Sparsely populated?
places with a low population density/few people per km 3
Telecommuting?
A work arrangement in which the employees works outside the office. Rural urban continuum- the gradual change in character of lived spaces from large conurbations to isolated rural homes
