What is Rum known for
- it is distilled from sugar cane or molasses
- notes of vanilla butterscotch coconut and chocolate
- can be aged in a barrel
What are the 3 categories of rum
- can drink any of these straight
- light rum: not aged, closer to drinking vodka, mild sweetness in flavor. Ex. Mojito
- Gold Rum: aged in a barrel, more pronounced flavor than light rum Ex. Hot buttered rum
- Dark Rum: aged longer, bolder taste can be straight nice for tasting or rum + coke. As you age the rum it is less likely you’re mixing it
When rum is aged
The flavor is more pronounced can be nice to drink
Brands: Bacardi gold, Myer’s, captain Morgan
Flavored rum is
Rum flavored with things like fruit
Ex. Malibu
Tequila is known for
- distilled from blue agave
- 100% agave or Mixtos
- people like to drink it straight or mixed
- can be aged, sometimes in a barrel
What are (2) brands of tequila
- Patron
- Don Julio
What are the (4) grades of tequila
- Blanco: unaged, pure agave flavor
- Resposado: aged 2-12 months, balance of agave and okay flavor
- Anejo: aged 1-3 years. Agave + smooth Smokey oak flavor
- Extra Anejo: aged over 3 years, rich oak flavor
Mezcal is known for
- distilled from any agave besides blue agave
- strong Smokey flavor
- it’s more expensive, it takes longer to grow theses strains of agave
- can be aged
- usually you drink it straight but it can also replace any tequila in a drink
Cordials is also known as
Liqueurs or schnapps
Cordials are known for
Being composed of a base spirit with additional flavoring such as sugar, fruit, herbs, spices or nuts
They are a sweet adult dessert can be dipped of mixed. The artificial ones are not really dipped on
Cordials can be flavored with
