Where is royal Selangor club and has been around for how many years ?
Royal selangor club which is next to dataran merdeka has been around for more than 100 years.
What is it, when founded and by who?
It is a social club in KL.
Founded in 1884
By the British who ruled Malaya
What purpose is this club ?
It is a meeting point for educated and high ranking members of British colonial society.
Before royal selangor club , what was it called ? And when was it awarded royal status?
Initially it was called the Selangor club but later on in 1984 (about 100 years later) the club was awarded a royal status.
Who awarded the royal status and why ?
Awarded by Sultan Selangor ,
Who voiced his support for the club’s preservation during the club’s 100th year anniversary celebration.
What did the club look like in history and when was it rebuilt again with which design?
Initially, the club is a small wooden building with an attap roof.
Later it was replaced by 2 storey structure and lastly rebuild again in
Year 1910 using a design in colonial tudor style.
What happened to the club over the years ?
Over the years the club’s membership increased and include high ranking Malaysian civil servants such as judges, lawyers and important people in society.
What did the club survive from ?
The club survived flooding and fire and was rebuilt several times.
During the early years what did the club organised, and what happened at long bar ?
During the early years the club has organised various sporting activities such as cricket and rugby,
And can be viewed from the Long bar which was known to ban women and children from entering.
The men would drink and get excited when they watched games , so they didn’t want them to see their behaviour.
Finally this band on “no women” entering was lifted last year 2023.

Currently the club is offering member’s sports,

Lounges,
Live band.
The club membership costs from rm18,000 - 25,000. We are allowed to enter if we are the member of the club
