Rocks 1. Flashcards
What is stage 1 of rock cycle?
The very first rocks formed were igneous rocks. These rocks formed from cooling magma or lava
What is stage 2 of rock cycle?
Over time weathering and erosion breaks down rocks into small fragments called sediments which are transported by sea, rivers, ice and wind
What is stage 3 of rock cycle?
Sediments are deposited in seas or lakes and covered by other sediments. Compression turns the sediments into sedimentary rocks. These rocks can also be weathered
What is stage 4 of rock cycle?
Heat from contact with molten magma and pressure causes by folding changes not igneous and sedimentary rocks into metamorphic rocks
What is stage 5 of rock cycle?
Sometimes plate movements cause rocks to melt back into mantle
Describe rock cycles only using one word per stage
—igneous
-weathering and erosion
-transportation and deposition
—sedimentary
-heat and pressure
—metamorphic
-melting
How is granite formed?

How is limestone formed?
Sediments and dead Shelly sea creatures settle at bottom of seas and lakes formed strata and were compressed to form layers of rock
