Restless leg syndrome
A
Uncontrollable urge to move legs (akathisia) - initially occurs at night but later may occur during the day, worse at rest
Parasthesias - crawling/throbbing sensations
Periodic limb movements of sleep (PLMS) - movments during sleep
Causes and associations:
- 50% FH
- iron deficiency anaemia
- uraemia
- DM
- pregnancy
Invesitgations:
- bloods - FBC, ferritin, U&E, HbA1c, Mg, TFT, B12, folate
Management:
- walking, stretching, massaging
- treat iron deficiency
- 1st line: dopamine agonists - pramipexole, ropinerole
- benzodiazpeines
- gabapentin
