Respiratory Rates Flashcards
Breathing or pulmonary ventilation has 2 processes
Inspiration and expiration
Atmosphere —>bronchial tree
Inspiration
Bronchial tree —> atmosphere
Expiration
The process is facilitated by
But brought about by
Pressure gradient
Intercoastal muscles, diaphragm and abdomen muscles
Normal inspiration (active)
Medulla
Diaphragm contracts anterio posteriorly
External intercoastal muscles contracts dorso ventrally
Normal expiration (passive)
Medulla
Diaphragm relaxes to become dome shaped
External intercoastal muscles relaxses
Forceful inspiration (active)
Cerebrum
Contraction of diaphragm and external i.c
(Inspired air increases on a much higher level…..500+2500-3000)
Forceful expiration (active)
Cerebrum
Contraction of abdomen muscles and internal intercoastal muscles
RelaxAtion of diaphragm and external intercoastal muscles
Normal breath rate=
12-16bpm
(1b=1insp+1exp)
