Q

What are the steps of mitosis? (6)

A
  1. Parent cell which has grown 4 chromosomes
  2. DNA replicates and chromosomes shorten and join by a centromere
  3. Metaphase happens and the chromosomes line up at the cell’s equator
  4. Anaphase occurs and spindle fibres pull the chromatids apart
  5. Cytoplasm splits and nucleus membrane forms around each group of chromatids
  6. 2 identical daughter cells are formed with 4 chromosomes in each

Q

What are the steps of meiosis? (7)

A
  1. Parent cell (2 pairs of chromosomes are visible)
  2. Chromosomes are doubled but attached at a point called centromere
  3. Homologous chromosomes line up along the middle of the cell
  4. One pair of chromosomes move to ends of cell
  5. Chromosomes line up in middle of each cell
  6. Chromosomes separate and move to the ends of cell
  7. Membrane produces 4 daughter cells
