where are oestrogen and progesterone produced?
both produced in the ovary
what are the 4 hormones used in the menstruation?
oestrogen, progesterone, LH,FSH
where are LH and FSH produced?/
pituitary gland (brain)
how do they get transported around the body?
blood stream (plasma)
what are hormones?
chemical messengers released from glands
what does FSH do?
stimulate follicle growth and causes the egg to develop and release oestrogen
what does LH do?
it causes an egg to be released from either ovary
what does oestrogen do?
stops FSH from being released and repairs and thickens uterus lining
and stimulates brain to release LH
what does progesterone do?
maintains the uterus lining
when is FSH at its highest?
on day 1 and 28 (when uterus lining has peaked)
when is LH at its highest?
day 14 at ovulation as it causes an egg to be released
when is oestrogen at its highest?
at around day 10/11 as it peaks when uterus lining starts building up
when is progesterone at its highest?
between day 15-26 as it peaks when uterus lining needs maintaining
if an egg isn’t fertilised, what does the corpus luteum stop making?
progesterone
