what is included in the personal details of our client?
name, address (home & work), contact number (home & work), doctor’s contact details, vital signs
what is a massage analysis?
info about experiences of client on massage; highlighting contradictions of the client
what are other information in the vital information of our client?
treatment plan (based on the preliminary assessment of the therapist), moment where therapist may explain the treatment plan for the client and answer client’s questions
what has the likelihood of contraindication, surgical operations, pregnancies (for women), and serious illnesses?
past medical history
what has the client’s conditions which may be the reason for the need of massage?
present medical situation/history
what is contraindication?
signs and symptoms in the client’s body that are seen BEFORE the treatment. these tells the therapists that massage should not be done or should be consulted first to the client’s personal physician
what is contra-action?
signs and symptoms in the client’s body that are seen DURING and/or AFTER the treatment. seeing these, massage should also be stopped (if currently in progress) or clients should be advised remedies (if after)
what are the three types of contraindication?
total, local, and medical
what are the conditions in a total contraindication?
fever, contagious diseases, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, recent operations or acute injuries, neuritis, skin diseases
what are the areas in a local contraindication?
varicose veins, undiagnosed lumps or bumps, pregnancy, bruising, cuts, abrasions, sunburn, undiagnosed pain, inflammation including arthritis
what are the conditions in a medical contraindication?
cardio-vascular conditions, any condition already being treated by a medical practitioner, edema, psoriasis or eczema, high blood pressure, osteroporosis, cancer, nervous or psychotic conditions, heart problems, epilepsy, diabetes, bell’s palsy, gynecological infections
