When do you use relative pronouns?
To link sentences together, in order to not repeat the same words - they are called relative because they relate to the noun they refer to.
When do you use qui?
when the next verb is a verb (qui is the subject of the next verb)
When do you use que?
When the next verb is a noun, a subject pronoun etc. (que is the object of the next verb)
When do you use dont?
dont is used for both people and things. It always replaces a phrase beginning with DE. Dont can also express posession.
When do you use où?
Où can be used to refer to both place AND time
When do you use preposition + qui (e.g. sans qui, pour qui, avec qui etc)
to refer to people after most prepositions and prepositional phrases
When do you use lequel/laquelle?
To refer to things after prepositions other than à or de (sur, dans, avec etc).
