Q

Satisfaction - investment model

A

It is based on the comparison level.
- It’s by comparing the words in the costs which is the comparison level and in the relationship is seen as profitable, then it will continue

Q

What is comparison with the alternatives?

A

It’s the same thing as the social exchange theory, when partners look outside their relationship to see and there need to be met elsewhere by being in another relationship or just being single

Q

What is investment?

A

It is anything a personal relationship comes to an end.
- Intrinsic investment: Any resources that are put directly into the relationship = Money, time, energy and self disclosure.

Q

Satisfaction versus commitment

A

I partners stay committed to the relationship, even if they are dissatisfied because they put investment into the relationship, meaning that they will try to work hard to maintain and repair the damage so they don’t waste any investment made

    accommodate for each other’s needs,
    forgive
    sacrifice.
They have a positive illusion about their partners, Unrealistically positive about them.
    Ridicule alternatives

Q

+ Research support.
Investment model

A
  • Research supports your meta-analysis
  • 52 studies from the late nineteen seventies to the 1999.
  • 11,000 participants from five different countries.
  • all three factors predicted relationship commitment.
  • Relationships with the highest commitment we are more stable and last longer.
  • True for both men and women homosexual or heterosexual couples.
  • Valid model

Q

HOWEVER- Correlation does not equal causation.
- Investment model

A

The metanalysis used coronation which does not allow us to conclude that the Fatma is in the investment model is what help participants be committed to the relationship because coronation does not equal causation, and it could be that more committed you feel towards the partner of the more investment you are willing to make the relationship so in the direction of causality, maybe either of us that suggested by the middle
Suggest that the model is not clear and does not have a clear direction for the cause and affect relationship

Q

+ explains abusive relationships.
Investment model

A
  • Explains why people stay in abusive relationships.
  • I study showed that women are more likely to return an abusive partner.
  • Because they had made investments in the relationship, and therefore view
  • These women were dissatisfied, in their relationship but stayed.
  • Application to the real world.
  • Proves that satisfaction, cannot explain why people stay in relationships.

Q

Oversimplification of investment.
Investment model

A
  • Views investment in a simplistic one-dimensional way.
  • Researchers point out that there is more investment than just resources you have already put into relationship
  • These research is extended investment model by including the Investments partners make their future plans are motivated to commit to each other because they want to see your cherished plans for the future work out.
  • This means that the original model is limited because of investment

Q

Intraspecific selection

A
  • strategy for men.
  • Men look for genetically fit women with signs of good fertility, so they look for people with Babyface, healthy hair and hip to waist ratio.
  • I quantity over quality.
  • They try to pass the gene.
  • Techniques like aggression because there’s competition about winning a female.
  • diphormis: the sexes look diff
17
Q

What is interspecific selection

A
  • How women choose their partner.
  • They prefer men with resources who can provide.
  • sexy son hypothesis: Woman look for men with desirable catcher sticks, such as being told to pass their sons.
  • Tend to be more picky because they put effort before, after and during pregnancy.
  • Quality over quantity because eggs are less available.
  • Runaway process: Certain patristics woman shoes will be constant through generations.
18
Q

Research support.
- Evolutionary explanation

A
  • Research support about women being more picky than men.
  • A study.
  • When around a college campus, asking people the question of I find you good looking, do you wanna sleep together?.
  • No woman said yes.
  • 75% of men said yes.
  • Shows that men want to spread their genes with any woman, and a woman one good offspring.
  • Highlights how women and men evolve differently.
  • valid theory.
19
Q

HOWEVER- contradictory research.
Evolutionary model.

A

Both men and women could be picky. If they’re seeking long-term relationship. A study shows that similar search strategies are used when men or women look for long-term relationship. Therefore, sexual selection is actually more complex.

20
Q

Not a modern theory.
- Evolutionary my door

A
  • Evolutionary model is a socially sensitive piece.
  • justifies men sleeping around more than women, because it states that meant seek for quantity over quality.
  • problematic.
  • Women are independent.
  • They can get resources themselves and raise children by themselves using sperm donors.
  • Because society has evolved to give women choices.
  • This model lacks temporal validity, and socially sensitive
