refraction Flashcards
memorize
refraction equation
n = c/v
what does n stand for
index of refraction
what does c stand for
speed of light in a vacuum which is always 3.0x108 m/s
what does v stand for
speed of light in the given medium/substance
when light travels through a less dense medium, it
speeds up and bends away from the normal
when light travels through a more dense medium, it
slows down and bends towards the normal
shorter wavelengths equal
faster speed of light which bends slightly further away from the normal
longer wavelengths equal
slower speed of light which bends slights closer to normal
would violet or red light refract closer to line of normal
red light would refract closer to normal because it has a longer wavelength which slows down the speed and makes the light bend closer to normal
