What was the “Western Schism” and how did it pave the way for the Reformation?
France has its own pope; Rome has its own pope; nobody knows which one is legit. Makes people distrust the church.
How did John Huss set the stage for the Reformation?
John HUss spoke out against many of the core beliefs in the RCC. He preached at the church in the language of his people
How did John Wycliff set the stage for the Reformation?
- One of the few that owned a bible and after his study he attacked the RCC
- Spoke out against the pope
- Translated the bible into english
- Followers are known as Lollards
Who was John Tetzel and what unintended role did he play towards launching the Reformation?
Tetzel was a preacher and one day he was selling indulgences for a lot of money and when ML saw this it caused him to write his theses which kicked off the reformation
What specific objections did Martin Luther have against the RCC?
He believes that indulgences are giving people false hope and that they are bad
What specific event “lit the fuse” to Reformation fires?
ML nails the 95 theses to the church door
What was the “Diet of Worms” and what resulted from it?
ML on trial and he gave his “Here I Stand” speech and he is found guilty which resulted in ML being excommunicated but was kidnapped and kept safe

What did Luther and his wife have in common regarding their life before they married?
They were both committed to serving christ but the both separate from their original ways (monk and nun)

General revelation vs special revelation
God reveals to all through nature and conscience vs. God has revealed himself through scripture

Belief that God determines before birth who will be saved and who will not
