6,000-7,000 women marched for 5 hours - 20,000 National Guard followed them

- he agreed to provide Paris with grain

significance of October Days

A

King regarded himself as a prisoner of the Parisian mob when he was brought back to Paris
- they hoped to reduce his political influence

Assembly had been ignored and humiliated by mob’s actions
- felt as imprisoned as the King
- feared the mob

Assembly issued decree that changed Louis’ status
- now subordinate to the law
- his subjects became citizens
- a shift in power towards the people
- many deputies distrusted people as much as the King
