Random facts Flashcards
Describe Beefeater gin
It clocks in at 47% ABV in the states, so its used in a lot of recipes as it cuts through anything (amari, citrus, fruit syrups), but its also delicate enough not to overpower vermouth.
Describe Tanqueray gin
US version clocks in at 47.5%, so cuts through other ingredients. Highly juniper forward so worka best in spirit forward and bitter cocktails. Often too assertive in refreshing, citrus heavy drinks.
Describe Plymouth gin
Soft and citrusy with pronounced juniper undertones. Mixes well and gently with other ingredients, especially in citrus cocktails.
Describe Carpano Antica Formula
Big, bitter, vanilla forward. Works best with aged spirits, not so well with delicate (unaged) spirits as the vanilla can overshadow.
Describe Dolin Rouge
Much lighter and softer than Antica. Doesn’t overwhelm the less spicy spirits like bourbon, calvados, cognac, etc.
Describle Dolin dry vermouth?
Extremely dry and clean. Alpine herbs and slight bitterness. Uniquely refreshing.
Describe Cocchi Americano Bianco
Big, bitter and complex. Not ideal for any martini except the Vesper (as it’s closest to Kina Lillet).
Describe Lillet blac
Elegant aperitif wine, but not a vermouth. Slightly bitter, honey-like sweetness, floral with orange zest brightness. Used to give body to cocktails and make them juicy. Can be used as a substitute for dry vermouth, but it will be more expressive.
Describe Rittenhouse Rye
Aged at least 4 years, bottles at 100 proof. High ABV makes it ideal for cocktails as it will have enough personality to shine through.
Deacribe Elijah Craig Small Batch
Works well in all cocktails, balances sweetneas of corn with a healthy punch of rye and is aged long enough to stand up to other ingredients.
Describe Dolin Blanc
Versatile, works with almost every spirit. Herbaceous.

Why does carbonated water have to be served cold?
