Biblical vs. Sceptic Dates for Period of Judges
Exodus in 1446 (480 yrs before Solomon), 40 yrs for exile, 25 yrs for Joshua’s conquest is 1375. Saul comes in c. 1050, so 325 yrs for judges
Controversy: late date of exodus: 1250, causing only 200 yrs for judges
Ruth at beginning of judges, Eli at end
Years of Judges Confusion
40 is redundant, Total yrs tallied is 464 instead of 325. Maybe 40 means a whole career? And maybe 2 judges at the same time?
Cycle of Oppression
Leader rescues, next generation did not acknowledge the lord, they are oppressed, and in their distress they call out to the Lord, God sends a judge who delivers them, and they follow the Lord all of his days, leader dies, and cycle is repeated.
