Questions on NS Flashcards
Outline role of CNS
Consists of brain and spinal cord. Sends information to brain from the outer parts of the body (PNS) and sends signals from the brain out to the PNS
Outline the role of the PNS
Consists of all nerves outside of brain and spinal cord. Gathers info from outside world and sends to CNS, then messages from CNS are sent back to the PNS to muscles and glands so that we can respond to stimuli.
Outline the role of the SNS
Responsible for conscious perception and responsible for voluntary movement of skeletal muscles
Receives sensory info from the outside world & sends this to the brain
In turn it sends signal from brain to muscles to bring about action
Outline the role of the ANS
Responsible for involuntary control of the body, including reflex movement of skeletal muscles and maintaining organ function (e.g. breathing, heart rate, and stress responses.)
How does the Endocrine system transmit info
Secretes hormones into bloodstream
Slower but more widespread
