Why do you want to become a firefighter?
I want a job that I look forward to
I want to be a part of a team that they can depend on and I can depend on them
This is where I feel I will be most challenged and rewarded to do so.
What do you know about this Fire Department?
During my ride alongside North Metro, I witnessed their proficiency and knowledge as a team functioning to help the public. I know that they are very well trained and work diligently to become so. Their compassion for the public while they work in dangerous conditions is inspiring.
The bar is set high here and that’s one of the many reasons I want to be a part of this department.
What is the job of a firefighter?
To protect and preserve life and property.
To educate the public in safety and prevention.
What are your strengths?
Construction especially framing structure.
Most aspects of mechanical workings.
Understanding of tools and their application and corresponding maintenance
Working in a team environment specifically filling in where there is a deficit.

What are your weaknesses?
I need to work on organization at home and my office.
I am very organized at my work however at home I tend to be lazy.
What are your 5-10-20 yr goals?
5 yrs- established Firefighter with excellent Emt skills working toward engineer or technical rescue.
10 yrs- Engineer/Mentor helping with training new hires/ public.
20 yrs- Working towards extending the departments legacy. My retirement from this department.
What are your positive character traits that would make you a good firefighter?

Tell us about a time you failed at something. What lessons did you learn?
Going into business with a family member.
It’s very difficult to correct behaviors in a business relationship when you’re also trying not to negatively effect your family.
Why is diversity important in the fire service?
It offers different perspectives or solutions on a variety of issues and challenges.

How would you handle a coworker stealing drinking or cheating?
How would you handle a conflicting order?
What do you do when a coworker struggling to do their job well?
Try to find specific details where they are suffering and come up with a plan together to improve their performance. Perhaps recruit the help of other fellow workers.
How do you handle conflict with a coworker?
Bring the conflict to that specific coworker first to see if an amicable solution might be available if not use the chain of command.
