How did pasteur make his discovery?

A

He was asked to research why a beer companies beer was going off. He discovered that the bacteria grew when exposed to the air he then proved this through exposing sterilised water to the air and another not exposed. The one exposed had bacteria in that could be seen under a microscope. This disproved spontaneous generation

A

1861 and then in 1878 he published the next stage of his theory that germs caused infection

Who developed pasteurs ideas?

A

Robert Koch who made links between specific bacteria and diseases for example cholera and TB. He also found a way to stain the bacteria to make it more visible

How did Fleming discover penicillin?

A

Penicillin discovered by accident. Fleming came back from holiday removed tops from old petri dishes found that mould had got into petri dish and was killing the staphylococcus bacteria

Who developed penicillin?

A

Florey and chain developed penicillin by testing it on policeman who had an infected wound it was proved effective and they received £10,000 by government to mass produce it for the war. In ww2 it ended up saving 25000 soldiers and 15% would have died without the drug
