Q

Whats the sulfate test?

A

aqueous barium ions are added to an unknown solution.

equation being Ba2+ (aq) + SO4^2-(aq) –> BaSO4(s)

Q

Whats the carbonate test?

A

1) in a test tube add dilute nitric acid to the solution being tested.
2) bubbling may indicate a carbonate being present.
3) bubble the gas through lime water and if it turns cloudy a white precipitate will have formed (of calcium carbonate)
