QE2-5 What Is Virtualization? Flashcards
What is virtualization?
Virtualization is the process by which one computer hosts the appearance of many computers, with each hosted operating system functioning as a virtual machine (VM). The host system manages and allocates resources to each virtual machine.
What are the three types of virtualization?
PC virtualization
Server virtualization
Desktop virtualization
What is PC virtualization?
PC virtualization allows a single personal computer to run multiple operating systems.
For example, a user can have both Windows and Linux running on the same machine using virtualization software like VMWare Workstation.
What is server virtualization?
Server virtualization allows a server to host multiple virtual servers.
Users can log into these virtual machines, and they will appear as fully functioning, separate servers.
What is desktop virtualization?
Desktop virtualization allows a user’s desktop environment to be accessed from any computer.
The virtual desktop appears as a standard PC but can be accessed remotely, such as from an airport or hotel room.
