Q

Why was the Bloody Code abolished (4 points)

A

Public executions not working - people laughed and drank so it wasn’t a deterrent.
Large crowds gathered - more chance of criminal getting away if crowd think they’re innocent, riot and protest.
Juries wouldn’t convict - for minor crimes, thought punishment was too harsh.
Ideas about punishment changing - people thought punishment should match crime and reform. (Robert Peel)
