Define positive predictive value.

A

The number of true positive test results over the total number of patients WITH the condition that were assessed with the measure.

In other words, the PPV provides information about the likelihood that a patient has a given condition when they test “positive” for it.

Define negative predictive value.

A

The number of true negative test results over the total number of patients WITHOUT the condition that were assessed by the measure.

In other words, the NPV provides information about the likelihood that a patient does not have a given condition when they test “negative” for it.
