Protista Flashcards
Are protista eukaryotic of prokaryotic?
They’re eukaryotic
How do protista feed?
Some feed by taking in organic substances while others can use photosynthesis.
How do amoeba move?
By means of pseudopods and these are known as a representative unicellular organism.
What is algae?
It is a diverse group of plant like organisms ranging from unicellular to multicellular forms.
What do amoeba feed on?
Small plants, animals and bacteria.
Where do amoeba live?
Most commonly, they live in freshwater ponds and are typically found around mud at the bottom.
What permeability does the cell membrane of an amoeba have?
It has a semi-permeable membrane.
What two parts do the cytoplasm divide into?
Endoplasm and Ectoplasm
What is the consistance of the endoplasm and ectoplasm?
- The endoplasm is fluid like, it also has a grainy apparence due to the presence of food vacuoles and waste materials.
- The ectoplasm is soft in places to allow the development of pseudopodia.
How do pseudopodia work?
Pseudopodia extend in the direction in which the amoeba wishes to move.
How do amoeba use their pseudopodia to feed?
It uses its pseudopodia to engulf its prey and secretes Digestive fluid into the vacuoles created.
What is the contractile vacuole responsible for?
It is responsible for osmoregulation.
