Proteins Flashcards
What is a polymer?
A polymer is a substance composed of very large molecules called macromolecules, which are multiples of simpler chemical units called monomers.
What is a monomer? And which ones are in protein
Monomers are simple molecules which make up macromolecules.
Amino acids are the monomers that make up proteins.
Amino acids.
Amino acids make up proteins. If protein is break down, it will result in amino acids. There are 9 essential amino acids.
Amino acids purpose is breaking down food, building and repairing muscles, protein synthesis, make hormones and brain chemicals, boost immune system and strength bodily components like hair and such.

How many amino acids does the body need?
How many can the body make? And how many are essential?
20 (needed):11(produced by the body):9(essential amino acids.)
Essential amino acids list:
Histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan, and valine.
The one amino acid that is different in the body between childhood and adulthood.
Histidine is required in infants but not adults. Histidine is essential for the growth of children. It supports growth and repair of damaged tissues as well as making blood cells.
